New Zealand's spectacularly beautiful landscape includes vast mountain chains, steaming volcanoes, sweeping coastlines, deeply indented fiords and lush rainforests.

Comparable in size and/or shape to Great Britain, Colorado or Japan, New Zealand has a population of only 4 million - making it one of the world's least crowded countries. It is a haven for those seeking peace, rejuvenation and relaxation as well as a playground for thrill seekers and adventurers. A temperate climate with relatively small seasonal variation makes it an ideal year-round holiday destination.

Underlying New Zealand's physical attractions - its dramatic mountains, unpolluted beaches and green countryside - is an epic survival story of unique plants and animals. Cast adrift from the ancient supercontinent of Gondwanaland, these ancient species evolved in isolation and struggled to survive in what renowned naturalist David Bellamy has called ‘Moa's Ark’ (named after New Zealand's native, but now extinct, giant ... Dunedin Railway Station - Otago, South Island in New Zealand

Dunedin Railway Station

History & Culture in the Dunedin Region
The size, architecture and rich embellishments of Dunedin Railway station have earned it fame as a “Gingerbread House”.

The ‘Gingerbread House’ Glory of Dunedin Railway Station
Dunedin Railway Station was opened in 1906. Its sheer size, grandiose style and rich embellishments earned architect George A. Troup the nickname of ''Gingerbread George''. Troup designed the Dunedin station in the Flemish Renaissance style, similar to that of Otago University and the nearby Law Courts. It is built of Kokonga basalt with Oamaru limestone facings and incorporates a variety of shapes, textures and materials. The building went through a major restoration in 1999 to bring it back to its former glory.
