Location Description
Queenstown is in the heart of the Southern Lakes Region of the South Island in New Zealand. The region is renowned for unspoiled access to skiing, hiking, fishing and river or lake adventures. It is also becoming known for the superb Central Otago wines, especially Pinot Noir.
Queenstown is an oasis of lifestyle attractions. Its unique appeal is its diversity. Surrounded by spectacular scenery and a constantly changing landscape, Queenstown presents a new opportunity for exploration and experience every day.
The range of activities and outdoor pursuits is extensive - perfect for adventurers and leisure seekers alike. Both a summer and a winter destination, Queenstown offers year round adventure.
Between November and April the region offers great hiking, biking, golfing, fishing, and river and lake based activities. From the end of June until early October, Queenstown is a ski and snowboard resort with two downhill fields, heliskiing and the hugely popular winter festival.
Getting here
Flying
Fly direct to Queenstown on one of the regular domestic flights which depart from New Zealand's major cities. Or fly direct on an international flight to Queenstown, Dunedin or Christchurch.
Driving
A relaxed 6 hour drive from Christchurch will take you across the Canterbury Plains and Mackenzie Country where you can catch a glimpse of Aorangi/Mt Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain, past various alpine lakes and then onto the Southern Lakes Region.
Alternatively you may choose to take the West Coast route and stop off at Franz Joseph and Fox Glaciers on the way to Queenstown.
There is a selection of regular shuttle services and transfers which can be booked in advance from any one of these South Island tourist locations.
