General Information
Spanning between the Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty beaches, Waihi Beach is one of the undiscovered jewels of New Zealand. A beautiful 9km of one of the safest and best ocean beaches to be found.
Backdropped by pohutukawa, native bush and farm hills, it offers the perfect place to be.
At the northern end where the Surf Life Saving Club patrols, begin the scenic walks to Orokawa and Homunga Bays, where the views are spectacular.
At the southern end is the settlement of Bowentown offering both ocean and harbour swimming, boat launching facilities and good fishing from the rocks.
In between is 9km of unspoilt surf beach. This is the perfect base for touring the Coromandel, Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. Auckland 1 hour 45 minutes, Tauranga 45 minutes, Hamilton 1 hour, Rotorua 1 hour 30 minutes.
Goldmining town Waihi 10 minutes, Karangahake Gorge 20 minutes, Katikati 15 minutes.
