Opua Motel
Address - 24 Franklin Street Opua, 0200
General Information
Californian pine building constructed on traditional Kiwi lines and set on the only road to the car ferry to Russell, the original Capital of New Zealand. The only Motel in Opua and the nearest accommodation for Opua Marina.
If your idea of fun is a casino, karaoke, in-house dining and splashing about with kids in the pool….fantastic! There are plenty of places to cater for your needs in The Bay of Islands…but Opua Motel is not one of them.
We take a far more relaxed view with accommodation. Be kind to yourself and rest easy in a place where “stress” is a word we never have to use. Choose between a four-person suite; or two to three people sharing deluxe rooms; all fully equipped for self-catering.
Take a glass of wine into the garden, fire up the barbecue, dine under a canopy of stars, languish afterwards in our tree-top spa overlooking natural bush reserve and maybe finish off the night with a multi-lingual DVD movie? Just another day in The Bay of Islands.
Now you are tuned into “Island Time” you may want to seek out the host of attractions and tours local to your perfectly located “base camp” at Opua Motel.
Whether you have arrived in Opua by yacht and want a few days Rest and Recreation or by car from Auckland and want a good night’s sleep, Opua Motel has everything you need for a peaceful, safe and happy stay in the beautiful Bay of Islands.
Opua Motel offers a range of accommodation to match your budget, family and preference. All rooms include as standard queen sized beds for two people sharing; then we have suite or studio options for added members of your party or family configured to include three or four people sharing.
We also have infant facilities and if you need special requirements for babies just let us know in advance and we will provide locally so you don't have to take all the added bulk of "baby-stuff" in your luggage. There are cooking facilities in all rooms with microwaves and mini-ranges plus a shared gas fired barbecue for al-fresco dining.
Finally, for in-house entertainment there are CD and DVD players in all rooms and a library of multi-lingual DVD programming to suit all ages and tastes. By early 2005 we will be providing a Broadband guest computer for in-house internet facilities.

Location Description
500 meters from the waterfront of Opua Marina. You are spoilt for choice…attractions include the Treaty House at Waitangi where you can visit the birth of Maori’s introduction to European culture. The shops and café’s of Paihia where you can also scan the options of cruises for further adventures into the Maritime Park; or just drive 500 metres from Opua Motel to board the ferry to “Romantic Russell” which is the earliest seat of European settlement in New Zealand and still has all the buildings of the day to prove it.
Don’t forget, in New Zealand there are only 14 .4 people per square km. …In comparison, a similar sized country like U.K. has 245 people per square km….Finding deserted roads and beaches is not difficult here!
From your easy access point of Opua Motel, take the opportunity to track further into Northland. Visit the fascinating craft shops and rolling vineyards of Kerikeri, the giant Kauri forests at Waipoua, the sand-surfing dunes of Ninety-Mile beach or the Northern tip of New Zealand at Cape Reinga, where Pacific Ocean crashes into Tasman Sea.
